From WAN to Cannes

Well, WAN and WEF have come and gone and we’re all feeling a little wan ourselves. We hope you dear reader enjoyed our news blog and video. We certainly learnt a lot from the experience, rookies as we are still, and a HUGE thanks to the Zoopy team who ‘zouped’ up our news coverage at this significant industry event with their photography and video posts. Events like this are exhausting, one runs from one venue to the next, barely eating, grabbing power where you can get it, writing and loading furiously to meet deadlines. For a team not used to covering news events, they were tireless and their passion inspiring. You rock, guys.

We’d like to know what you, our readers think – let us know how we can improve things for the next big event, news happening. Because while this week has all been about media, we do cover 27 sections in the broader media, marketing and advertising industry in South Africa/Africa and next week is Cannes, that big advertising feast across the puddle, where we will have a client blogging for us regularly next week.

After that it’s the local celebrations - the bikini-clad, lavish, trendy and anything goes, Loeries, in that sunkissed true Seff Efrican holiday mecca, Margate. A huge party, with some awards thrown in for credibility, and the fab and fantastic in attendance.

Seriously though, if there’s one thing that came out of this event, it was that multimedia publishing is here to stay – no matter what medium you use primarily to provide news and information to your readers, no publisher can stick to only one platform and hope to survive in the long term. It’s digital all the way.

Cheers,

Louise

Thanks Jason! Not missing the mountain at all as am sick in bed with germs from the Mother City!
Also send off from said city with truck load of smelly fish overturned on N2 and two hour traffic jam which made me miss my plane was NOT cool. Please try arrange a nicer goodbye next time! Now my cats won’t leave me alone given said ‘aroma’… Jo’burg like a freezer though, wouldn’t wish this winter on anyone!
