DCI, DCI, read all about it!

For an event which focused largely on blogging, a search using various blog aggregators and Google hasn’t turned up all that much yet from bloggers on yesterday’s Digital Citizen Indaba session. Perhaps too much Rat & Parroting?
Anyway, here’s selection of what there is out there so far (and don’t forget to view all the Zoopy videos which I’ve already posted here, here, here and here):
Morning session:
- Prof Guy Berger, New Media Lab: Africa’s digital griots
- Ramon Thomas, NETucation: Ndesanjo Macha keynote at Digital Citizens Indaba 2007
- Melissa Gardiner, New Media Lab student, on Thought Leader: From rock painting to blogging
- Arthur Chatora, New Media Lab student, on Thought Leader: Fractured identities in the blogosphere
- Carly Ritz, multimedia manager at The Times: Ranting from the DCI
- Clemencia Jacobs, Highway Africa blog: Journos vs Bloggers
- Thabile Skhosana & Tebatso Mabilisa, Highway Africa blog: Journalism and Blogging
- Furaha Thonya & Lumko Jimlongo, Highway Africa blog: It’s better “blogged” in pictures
- Melissa Gardiner, New Media Lab student, on Thought Leader: I blog what I like
Afternoon session:
South African stream:
- Ayanda Kunene, Highway Africa blog: Ramon Thomas on monetising blogs
- Jason Elk of Zoopy: Newsy or sleazy? IOL ‘miracle penis’ article is still the most popular
- Galen Schultz on Thought Leader: Creating content for consumption
- Belinda Hamburee & Shakeman Mugari, Highway Africa blog: Content is king!
African stream:
- Arthur Chatora, New Media Lab student, on Thought Leader: Challenges of content within the blogosphere in Africa
- Prof Guy Berger, New Media Lab: “Activists, check your metadata!”
- Glorious Sefako (South Africa) and Caroline Njenga (Kenya): Highway Africa blog: Cyber activism in Africa and legal lessons
Don’t forget to check out:
Updated 21:38: tonight, with a better Internet connection, my Afrigator search is working much better and there are a lot more posts, obviously, since Afrigator aggregates African content, not just South Africa. So, apologies to those bloggers whose posts I left out earlier. (Although I did do a search on Google but not a Google blog search.)
Search results for keywords on blog aggregators:
- Afrigator: Digital Citizen Indaba
- Amatomu: Digital Citizen Indaba
- Technorati: Digital Citizen Indaba
If anyone else can tell me of other African blog aggregators to link to, please feel free to let me know.

Hi Simone - Thank you for great coverage of the Digital Citizen Indaba. I have to admit to being a little disappointed in the number of conversations being sparked by what I thought was a stimulating and interesting day of awesome speakers and presentations. For us as organisers, there are quite a few lessons to be taken away from this year’s event - including a closer focus on the DCI blog, website and wiki.
If anyone out there has any other suggestions or comments about this year’s event, please contact me on a.taylor at ru.ac.za.
