[NMMC] Eric Edelstein introduces Affiliate Marketing

(This is a synopsis of a talk given by Eric Edelstein, Chairman of trafficsynergy.com)

Eric opens up with a story on how traffic Synergy helps a client generate 650 leads per day, through affiliate marketing. The power of affiliate marketing is immense, and it must be done right from the start.

Affiliate marketing is performance based marketing, where an affiliate gets paid by an advertiser/client once a specific action happens (filling out a form, downloading software etc)

It is a huge phenomenon overseas, and South Africa is waking up to the opportunity.

Amazon does 35% of their turnover through affiliate sales.

Anyone can be an affiliate, as long as you know how to move a user from one space to another.

From an advertising point of view, you can pay money to get lots of visitors to yur site, or you can pay money for quality visitors, or you can pay for lots of quality visitors. In other words, no more cold calling.

Eric talks about a friend who makes $2000 per day as an affiliate, on the backbone of a list of 1.5 million addresses. In essence, the friend works 15 minutes per day.

For every super affiliate who makes over $10 000 per month, there are 10000 who are not making any money. Successful affiliates thinkout the box, and risk their own money to create drive to the clients site.

As an example of thinking out the box, Eric says that affilaites were present on Facebook ads the day after the platform was launched, whereas corporates are ony making their way there now.

If you decide to offer your product to affiliates, it is important to have a good Affiliate manager to weed out the fraud.

An affiliate manager must also have a good relatinship with the affiliates. This is why a lot of affiliates prefer to work with a network. There are other advantages too:

• Single login
• One place for stats
• One cheque at the end of the month
• One system to learn

South Africa is ripe for Affiliate marketing. One man has quit his managerial job and has bought a house in Camps Bay on the proceeds of his affiliate earnings.
