[Social Media] Facebook launches chat, 24.com goes Q&A

So, Facebook Chat has finally hit South African users. Whether it went live last night or this morning, Wednesday, 23 April 2008, the South African blogosphere is currently all a-twitter with this latest development from Facebook. The big question at the tip of everyone’s fingertips is: What is going to happen to existing chat networks such as Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Skype, Google Talk, ICQ and AIM? Will there be a mass migration to the platform which already consolidates most people’s contacts?
Also launched publically this week has been Answerit, 24.com’s latest foray into social media in the South African networking space (it was accidently leaked via Twitter on 18 March). And there’s a carrot to entice users to sign up and participate: R5000 will be given away to the Answerit user who achieves the most points by 31 1 May 2008 [the press release had a typo]. Ten runners-up will receive a ‘Magic 8-ball’.

So, perhaps I should just go add my Facebook Chat question to Answerit… :)
